This chart shows the level of
broadband penetration in the top 30 broadband countries, and how much
broadband access costs in each of them. Korea is #1, with a 90% level
of broadband penetration and a price of .45 cents/megabit, and the US
is #12 with a 51% level of broadband penetration and a price of
$3.33/megabit. Municipal and community broadband projects can help
bring broadband service to more Americans, and can also help to lower
the cost of access by providing service at lower prices and/or by
stimulating competition in the US broadband market.
