Wireless Portals with Wifidog

This clearly written article tells the story of the development of
Wifidog by the community wireless group, Ile Sans Fil
(www.ilesansfil.org) in Montreal. Wifidog (http://www.wifidog.org) is a
captive portal system that consists of two parts: a gateway per hotspot
running a client process and a Web-based central server. Wifidog, which
is now used by other community wireless groups, handles user
authentication, user sign-up, real-time network monitoring, and
extensive statistics about network usage patterns and hotspot
popularity. It also makes location-specific content possible, so that
users in different locations see different splash and portal pages when
they login. With a tool like Wifidog community wireless networks can
manage a system of hotspots.
